I was initially motivated to write this book after seeing the difficulty that many recent immigrants experienced in Canada because of a lack of language and cultural skills. Immigrant receiving countries like Canada and the United States consist of people whose families have come from many countries. Language becomes a very important unifying force and a marker of identity in these countries.
